Description

Class 10 of 12: Intricate Filigree – The Loop-Stitched Bird’s Nest

Step into the realm of classical glass weaving as you enter the advanced stages of our beginner series. In this tenth installment, you will unlock the secrets of loop-stitching, an elegant, historic lacework style that mimics delicate textiles in molten glass.

Using glass rods, you will learn to cross-hatch and layer glowing paths of glass to construct a beautifully textured, bird’s nest. To bring this organic scene to life, you will master the delicate sculpting required to nestle pristine glass eggs inside, finishing your masterpiece with a hand-sculpted bird perched upon the brim.

What You Will Master
  • The Loop-Stitch Technique: Master the steady hand control needed to lay down overlapping, continuous loops of molten glass to create a stable, woven network.
  • Form Architecture: Learn to build a structural shell over a coiled core, keeping the nest completely hollow yet physically durable.
  • Element Fusion: Refine your precision as you sculpt and securely melt miniature glass eggs into the intricate woven interior.
  • Bird Sculpting: Pull together your foundational animal sculpting skills to shape a tiny teardrop shaped, expressive bird and seamlessly fuse it to the textured nest.
Your Handcrafted Portfolio
  • One Sculpted Bird’s Nest: A mesmerizing, lace-like glass sculpture featuring a woven nest, delicate eggs, and a perched bird.
