Description
Intermediate Class: The Sea Turtle or Tortoise
Dive into the intricate world of borosilicate glass sculpture. This intermediate class transitions you from basic shapes into complex, multi-part organic shapes. Under master guidance, you will learn to balance, texture, and fuse individual elements into a stunning, lifelike glass sea turtle or tortoise.
Please Note: This is an intermediate-level course. Students must have completed beginner classes up to Class 9 to register or equivalent experience on a torch.
What You Will Master
- Anatomical Assembly: Learn the precise thermal timing required to fuse delicate flippers, legs, and a head to a centralized shell without cracking the cooling glass.
- Shell Texturing: Master specialized tool work to press, score, and sculpt realistic patterns onto the surface of molten glass.
- Advanced Heat Management: Control temperature zones across a complex, multi-part sculpture to keep the entire piece stable on the torch.
- Kiln Annealing Protocols: Understand the structural science of slow-cooling large or color glass sculptures to eliminate microscopic stress points.
Your Handcrafted Portfolio
- One Sculpted Glass Sea Turtle or Tortoise: A breathtaking, solid glass marine sculpture featuring beautiful custom color patterns and lifelike details.
Studio Pickup & Shipping
Because these sculpture pieces are more complex and made with color glass, there is a possibility your creation might need to undergo a 24-hour controlled cooling process in our kiln to ensure durability.
